Situated in the east central portion of the state of Alabama, and with a population of almost 200,000 and a county seat named Opelika, Lee County operates its public records in line with the provisions of the Alabama Open Records Law, the law makes provisions regarding the publication, the storage and access to all non-confidential government records. The law provides for access to these records for all residents of the county in line with the provisions of the act. Residents are given the right to request and examine public records except in certain situations where the law provides otherwise. Records that are available for inspection includes criminal records, sex offender information, court records and certain vital records, in particular, vital records may only be accessed by a few persons. 

Obtaining Lee County’s Criminal Records

Residents of Lee county who are interested in obtaining information on the criminal history of an individual may decide to do so by visiting the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency(ALEA) website and making use of the online criminal history check tool. This portal contains the information relating to the criminal history and activities of all individuals residing in the state. This record may be obtained both physically and through online means. To obtain this record physically, the requester would need to obtain and complete the Application to review Alabama Criminal History Record Information, the applicant would also need to provide the fingerprint of the subject of the search, together with an up to date valid photo Identification, and the fee of $25 which can be paid via a cashier’s check or money order, an extra copy of this same request would incur an additional cost of $5 for each copy requested. Obtaining Lee County Inmate Records

Records of inmates in Lee county can be sourced from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, the Lee county Sheriff’s department is tasked with the duty of maintaining and administering the operation of the Lee County Corrections Division. Inmate visitation in Lee County Detention Centre using the video visitation means, the inmate will be kept at a remote location and the visitor will be ushered into a video station with a monitor, a camera and a receiver, and the visit is supposed to last for 30 minutes. Inmates are only allowed one visit every week, and every visitor is mandated to be at the facility at least 10 minutes before the visit begins, there are no provisions of swapping visitors, and the inmate is allowed to have a maximum of four visitors per each visit. Visitors must come with their photo ID, social security or birth certificate otherwise they would not be allowed to visit the inmate.

Alternatively, to obtain inmate information, requesters may visit the Alabama Department of Corrections which stores the database of individuals housed in the detention and correctional facilities in the state and in all the counties in the State including Lee County. Requesters may make use of the inmate search tool provided by the portal and make the search by providing the name of the inmate of the Alabama Institutional Serial Number.

Obtaining Lee County Sex Offender Information

Information for Sex offenders residing in Lee County may be obtained from the Lee County Sheriff’s Department Website, to gain access to this information, interested persons may visit the website, select the sex offender tab and begin the search. The search may be conducted using the location, the name of the offender or the city. When the search is conducted using the location, the result will bring out all the sex offenders living within the particular area. Where the search is meant to be an individual search, the requester can input details such as the offender’s name, city, location, registration number, address, physical description and offence. There is also the provision of a list of sex offenders who are non-compliant for the public to be placed in the know. There is also the provision of the registration of an email address for persons interested in getting email notifications anytime a sex offender is within the vicinity. 

Furthermore, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency also stores information on sex ofenders living within the boundaries of the state. Requesters may visit the Alabama Sex Offender Registry to make the search for sex offenders in Lee County. The search can be conducted by providing the name, the city and the location, the email address and the internet name. There is also a database detailing the information of non-compliant sex offenders and also the provision for email registration to get updates.

Obtaining Lee County’s Court Records

Court records for Lee county may be obtained from the Portal of the Alabama Unified Judicial System, there is an online database that contains the records of all the courts in the different counties in Alabama. Applicants interested in obtaining a record may do so by conducting a search on the portal using either the names, the case numbers or any image. This search is done for a fee of $9.99 for every name and case number searched. Where the search is done using images, a fee of $5 will be required for the first 29 pages of the document, thereafter for every other page,a  fee of $0.50. The portal also provides the means for persons who are interested to monitor a district court case for a fee of $19.99; In addition, circuit court cases can be monitored for a fee of $29.99. How to Obtain Lee County Vital Records

Vital records for Lee county may be obtained from the Vital Records Office of the Alabama Centre for Health Statistics at the rate of $15 for the certified copy and $6 for every additional copy.
